The Americas return to The Marrs Bar for a special headline show on Good Friday.

Out of their unstable lives, hedonistic habits and frenetic travels comes West Midlands three-Piece ‘The Americas’. Influenced by impossible dreams and driven by the romance of struggle, the band was formed in late 2015 by Harry Payne (Vocals/Guitar/Bass) and Aaron Whittaker (Vocals/Guitar/Keys) The two bonded over a mutual appreciation of the lyric-laden ballads of Young, Cohen and Dylan and decided to drop their then-current projects in favour of chasing that thin, wild mercury sound. With a view to take The Americas out on the road they recruited the talent and young blood of Alex Bradshaw (Drums)

Before releasing material to the public the Live show had to be tried, tested, broken and rebuilt. A string of eccentric Live appearances then followed before the now instantly recognisable, explosive, theatrical format was naturally born. A one-off support slot at a capacity O2 Academy Birmingham show and a sell-out debut headline show at their old haunt (The Sunflower Lounge) prompted them to go public and release their first track ‘Tenth day of May’ In November 2016.

A nationwide tour in March 2017 was quickly followed by the release of ‘Hot Minute’ : driving but delicate, and all the while with its heart on its sleeve, the song is a lyrical and sonic representation of The Americas’ spirit – Classic songwriting brought into the 21st century via the 70’s rock ‘n’ roll vehicle.

With two songs public and a UK tour under their belt The Americas ensured they were kept busy throughout the summer months. They made their debut festival appearance at The Isle Of Wight festival, and went on to play Tramlines, Truck, Ynot and Reading.

To mark the end of a whirlwind first year of being active, The Americas put forward their third offering ‘Something’s gonna happen’. Taken from their upcoming unnamed 2018 EP it’s a song about dreaming boldly and having the hard nosed tenacity to stay on course regardless of which way the river flows. ‘Something’s gonna happen’ is The Americas’ anthem; they sing it because they mean it, and people sing it back because they believe it too.
