Fine and Shandy

First on stage are Fine and Shandy, who aim to get a few, or possibly all, of your body parts twitching by playing an upbeat mix of out of the ordinary covers. Diverse influences include footstompin' roots, air guitar rock and an undercurrent of blues surfacing throughout. Powerful vocals are provided by Sheona Goodyear while excellent musicianship comes courtesy of lead guitarist Clive Kennard, drummer Rich Beard, and bass guitarist Jamie Shaw - familiar faces from Worcester bands past and present (including The Fingers, Groovy head & Will Dance for Chocolate) Fine and Shandy were most recently seen supporting the outstanding Connie Lush at Worcester's Marr's Bar. This band are guaranteed to get your tail feather shakin'.

All the classic Who tracks played with the passion and energy associated with this fantastic band. From it’s inception the show/set has been based on recent live Who shows/tours such as the 2000 show at the Albert Hall and the 2002 world tour. The five piece band are all vastly experienced musicians and have played live music venues all over the UK. The 21 number set spans the decades and includes all the classics such as Can't Explain, Anyway Anyhow, The Seeker, The Real Me, Baba O’reilly through to You better you better you bet. Its 100% live and 100% Who. No tapes here. We guarantee you won't be dissapointed!!As we say "It ain't stars in your eyes", we don't pretend to be lookalikes but we do play the way the Who have always played - live and with passion! and in our opinion that's the only way it should be! A Manic Who fan and a veteran of 26 Who shows all over the world recently commented to us "You really nailed the modern Who sound, the best Who tribute I've seen and I've seen a few". The Festivals Experience

Remember, or for the uninitiated imagine, the twilight at the end of a long, hot summer day at Glastonbury; in the midst of 150,000 excited and happy people; the sunshine feeling in your stomach accompanied by several pints of warm beer and a peculiar tasting truffle you bought in the Green Field; the anticipation in the air and the smell of herbal cigarettes; and then your favourite band bangs into their first number. Feels good doesn't it …….. The guys in this band are veterans of the great summer festivals scene and can recreate those same sights, sounds (and occasionally odours) in a venue near you. Trip Switch, Christian Forthright, Quentin Spentlove and Vince Le Magma have been regularly working the beer tents at Glastonbury, Reading, Leeds and the like since 1997 and have constructed their set list around the best of the best that they have seen over the years. They cover all the great bands that have performed at the big summer festivals over almost 20 years or so. This ranges from James, Happy Mondays & Stone Roses, through the Brit Pop of Oasis, Blur, Pulp etc, and later on Travis and Coldplay; then bang up to date with Snow Patrol, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs and Killers etc. resulting in a set full of hits, albeit with a theme and a feel good factor. So why not come along to the gig and experience some of that FESTIVALS magic?

Eileen Rose and The Holy Wreck

Eileen Rose has just released her fourth album At Our Tables through Evangeline Records. Opening a new chapter in her already impressive career, she has now taken her music to Detroit, tracking down the city's deep-rooted musical Soul and making it all her own. Aided by seasoned producers Al Sutton (Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock, Detroit Cobras, Electric Six), and Eric Hoegemeyer (Charm Farm, Kid Rock, Uncle Kracker), plus members of Sponge, Detroit Cobras, and her own band the Holy Wreck, Eileen has recorded her most accomplished record, yet. A joyous celebration of the accidents of Life, Love, and Human Nature.
She currently tours with her new line-up of the Holy Wreck, featuring guitar virtuoso Rich Gilbert (Frank Black, Throwing Muses, Tanya Donelly)
'Eileen Rose is probably the best singer-songwriter you've never heard of. You can imagine that when Sheryl Crow sleeps, she dreams of being as good as Rose' Bloomberg News (2008) - 4 out of 4 stars.
'This is her sharpest, most eclectic record yet. Highly Recommended.' Uncut (2008) 4 out of 5 stars.
'Eileen Rose boasts that kind of slightly restrained assuredness usually reserved for record makers with the maturity of the likes of Bob Dylan or Tom Petty…major success beckons' (2008) - HMV www.myspace.com/eileenroseandtheholywreck

Driver promotions Presents:-

We are starting to let local (and sometimes not so local) promoters bring us some of their finest bands and artists who they look after and promote. This week is Driver Promotions run by Siani Driver, Driver Promotions is a new promotions organisation in Worcester, to promote bands in the local area and help them find gigs. She's been putting on gigs in Worcester for a couple of years, and have been mainly promoting The Donns up till now, however she's recently found an opportunity to put on 2 gigs a month at the Firefly in Worcester, so she is branching out to get gigs for other bands. If you want a gig...get in touch with her through her myspace site.

Preston Reed
with very special support from Declan Bennett

Drawing on blues, rock, funk and jazz influences among others Preston Reed's vast range of explosively original music will forever change your expectations of a guitarist. Reed has single handily reinvented acoustic guitar playing. First-time listeners find it impossible to believe that they're hearing just the one musician, in real time.
While never letting his extraordinary technique overshadow the beauty of his music, the multi award winning Reed engages the entire instrument, creating a rock/jazz rhythm section, melody line and chordal accompaniment simultaneously; hauling out an orchestra you never knew was hidden inside. At full tilt, his fingers, thumbs, fists and hands at once suggest a drummer, keyboardist, bassist and several guitarists at work. The word virtuoso doesn't even come close.
Preston Reed is a performer that can change the mood in a room from one song to the next. He riffs with the conviction and guts of a rock band, yet plays with the subtlety of that most delicate of jazz pianists, Bill Evans. There are no fancy gadgets or gimmicky FX - just 6 strings (or occasionally 12), two hands and a daring and innovative musical imagination that crosses all boundaries.
The phrase 'has to be seen to believed' has never been more true!
"…. a major musical talent" Manchester Evening News - "True spellbinding guitar mastery" Guitarist Magazine - "Remarkable…. Mesmerising…" UNCUT - "In a class of his own" London Evening Standard - "Amazing….hypnotic" The Scotsman - "Absolutely unmissable" The Herald - "Heart stopping tour de force" Billboard - "Will drop your jaw" Playboy - "Reed's fiendishly intricate blend of blues, rock, country and metal styles ducks and weaves itself away from measurability" The Irish Times

The Big Blues Tribe

I absolutely love this band, they're a nine-piece Blues Band in the style of BB King, Ray Charles and, more recently, Jools Holland's R&B Orchestra. With a full brass section, from trumpet to baritone sax, and five excellent voices, the Big Blues Tribe brings good-time big band blues to life. Fronted by Oliver Carpenter, one of the Midlands most experienced blues singers, and featuring top musicians on every stand, the band combines musical quality with an infectious sense of fun and a 100% commitment to blues music. From the first shuffle to the last jump, The Big Blues Tribe's complex and intricate arrangements take a broad range of music from little known tracks to standards like St James' Infirmary and make them their own.

Rory McLeod

Rory McLeod is a one-man-soul-band, and poet. He has a natural troubadour's talent for weaving magical, musical, storytelling spells accompanied by his own bizarre solo orchestra of distinctive instruments. The spoons, finger-cymbals, bandorea, Djembe-drum, harmonica, guitar, trombone and-tap-dancing shoes accompany the "rich, raw, deep and resonant" voice of this "singular and liberating performer." "Expect the unexpected." McLeod is a musical Gypsy, his eccentric melodies are infused with influences from Flamenco to blues, through to Celtic, East European and Calypso rhythms creating a style of music and songwriting that has been described as "Intimate, revealing, political and powerful."
