AT LAST! The sickness is spread to Worcester. Making their long awaited debut at The Marrs Bar, Sicknote are a groundbreaking electro-punk band from Cardiff and have been smashing dance floors and festivals both here and abroad. "Best act on our stage all weekend!..... they killed it and then drank the Scratch Perverts rider! bloody lengendary!" (Ben Peer - Nozstock). This is a true first for The Marrs Bar, and certainly not one to be missed. Two (yes, two!) drummers gracing our stage in synchronisation! Following regular airplay lately from Tom Robinson on BBC 6Music, 2000 Trees festival proclaiming them as their new favourite band (and best song of 2011 for Animate This) and Ginger (The Wildhearts) simply branding them 'f*cking excellent', I'm very proud to welcome The Cape Of Good Hope back for this very special debut performance with their new line-up: Bass - James Willis (resident sound man/DJ) Drums/Vocals - Howard James Kenny Guitar/Vocals - Stuart Newnham Guitar - Tom Stead Drums - Joseph Singh "With jarring guitars, complex rhythms, f*cked up time signatures and the employment of a mirage of different musical styles, they're dangerous as hell. Welcome them to your heart." www.thecapeofgoodhope.co.uk Need I say anymore? Yes! Support comes from the equally superb Rich Clarke and the Rafters, Das Sexy Clap and Vault of Eagles. Ed Sheeran - SOLD OUT with support from Jake Morley and Kal Lavelle |
I first met Ed Sheeran when he supported Nizlopi here at The Marrs bar a few years ago, well now he's back with John Parker from Nizlopi supporting him with John's new duo partner Jake Morley Ed may only be 20 years of age but the experience he has already gained is immense, he has supported acts as varied as Nizlopi, Gabriela Cilmi, Josephine Oniyama, Jay Sean, Mongrel, Pete Murray, and the Noisettes. The first thing you'll notice about Jake Morley is that he doesn't play guitar like everyone else - he taps it very fast with his fingertips whilst smashing out drum beats, and his guitar's on his lap. More importantly though, he really cares about songs and melodies and lyrics and communicating something when he sings. He puts everything of himself into his music, and the fact he does mad stuff on guitar is just extra really. Click here to watch Ed Sheeran on Youtube www.edsheeran.com www.myspace.com/edsheeran Fresh from a triumphant sold-out album launch at London's Bush Hall, things are hotting up for the remarkable Jake Morley. Jake's phenomenal talent as a songwriter and performer have long been recognised by his early fans, but his audience is building quickly and now record labels and publishers are rightly putting Jake Morley firmly on their buzz radar. Over 40 radio stations around the UK are playing his tracks, live acoustic sessions and interviews are an almost daily occurrence and Jake will be gigging throughout the UK over the course of 2011. "Jake Morley and his impressive band more than have what it takes… an ambitious pop sound that is every bit as bright and sparkly as the main player himself" 4 stars The Independent "A sound that can't be ignored. Morley can do no wrong, and a wealth of fans can't get enough." 9/10 Virgin.com "Great real life lyrics and superb virtuoso playing. That's extraordinary!" Tom Robinson, 6 music "Jake Morley is not just your average bloke with guitar, he stuns crowds with his unique style and is always a show stealer." BBC Introducing "It's phenomenal to watch him but it's still more daunting to consider that he also sings up a storm and writes cracking songs. Morley is a true original". Acoustic Magazine "This is a man to follow, not just on social media sites, but in real life whenever he plays a gig. This is music to cherish." Music Riot 'Many Fish To Fry' is a big, open sounding album, jam-packed full of memorable songs ranging from the poignant 'This City' through to the feel-good 'I Saw Something', via a full choir on the upbeat debut single 'Feet Don't Fail Me Now'. An early EP, boosted by play on Radio 2 and 6 Music, grabbed the attention of renowned producers Phill Brown (Bob Marley / Talk Talk / Faithless) and Calum MacColl (Rokia Traore / Ronan Keating / Eddi Reader) who worked alongside Jake and the band to create an album that overflows with soulful instrumentation, warm vocals and strong lyrics. Having played openers for the likes of Eric Clapton, Scroobius Pip, The Hoosiers, Ezio, Ben Ottewell (Gomez), Diana Vickers and Hafdis Huld, a packed-out monthly residency at London's famous Ronnie Scott's Club and a tour of Ireland in 2010, this year is shaping up to be a great one for live performances with gigs booking throughout the UK during the course of 2011. For a full list of current dates, please see the website. Watch & listen online - live performances and videos at: www.jakemorley.com www.youtube.com/jakemorley www.myspace.com/jakemorley Kal Lavelle is an Irish born singer songwriter now living in London. Her songs are instantly captivating, with a voice that Alex Zane (Channel 4) praised as simply "beautiful". Kal began playing guitar after winning a thousand pounds in a Mars Bar when she was 10 yrs old. With the money, she bought her mother a washing machine and for herself, her very first guitar. www.myspace.com/kallavellemusic SOLD OUT - £8.50 a ticket and £10 on the door - SOLD OUT |

Scott Matthews with Support from Jasper Click here to buy online |
Scott's debut album, 'Passing Stranger', contained an eclectic mix of styles and feaured the world renowned tabla player, Sukvinder Singh Namdari, who had played alongside such artists as Ry Cooder and Ravi Shankar and it wasn't long before Scott was getting national airplay from the likes of Janice Long, Mark Radcliffe and Bob Harris on BBC Radio 2. Scott's first single "Elusive" was released in September 2006. The single received much airplay from BBC Radio DJs Jo Whiley, Dermot O'Leary, and Zane Lowe. Lowe played "Elusive" once each night as his chosen Single of the Week. Matthews also visited the station to perform "Elusive" and other songs from the album in May and August 2006. In May 2007, "Elusive" won the Ivor Novello Award for "Best Song Musically and Lyrically". The extensive media attention lead to a licensing deal with Universal Island Records, who were the releasing label for Scott's 2nd album "Elsewhere", which was released in May 2009 to critical acclaim. Scott has not only embarked on a number of sell-out headline tours, but has also been fortunate enough to tour with some of the world's most respected artists, including, Foo Fighters, Snow Patrol, Rufus Wainwright,Tori Amos and Robert Plant. Scott is about to release his 3rd studio album, entitled, 'What The Night Delivers' and is playing only a handful of intimate solo shows, ahead of his full UK tour, later this year and we are lucky enough to grab one of those dates so be quick getting your tickets. Jasper is a local lad who will be massive one day - mark my words. he has been writing music for quite a long time now, been in loads of bands and done a lot of live work. He's found that nothing is quite as challenging as playing his own music solo and trying to get his points and views across to an audience with only his guitar to help. He is also an honourary member of the international band The Beauties which is no mean feat... www.scottmatthewsmusic.co.uk www.myspace.com/scottmatthewsmusic www.jaspertunes.com £10 ticket and £12.50 on the door Click here to buy online |

Rhombus Click here to buy online |
Rhombus are regarded as one of the finest Goth Rock bands to emerge from England in many years. Mixing male and female vocals with swirling guitars and driving bass, they combine some of the best elements of traditional 80s/90s UK Goth, with their own more modern distinctive approach. The songs are well crafted and catchy, possessing both depth and a sharp sense of humour. January 2010 saw the release of Open The Sky. Released in conjunction with Resurrection Record in London and AF Music in Germany this album takes the band to a new level. Now with a settled line up bringing an additional song writer to the group, this album was written and produced by all four members together last year. The production is the best Rhombus have delivered, thanks in no small part to Stephen Carey (The Eden House) coming on board to handle the mixing duties. The songs are lively, rich and mature but without losing the ‘pop sensibilities’ Rhombus songs are well known for. Rhombus have always known how to do catchy. All four members of the band bring a myriad of different styles to the melting pot with plenty of light and shade bringing poignancy, power and passion to what is set to be one of the most exciting releases of 2010. Support comes from The Last Cry, formed 3 years ago hailing from the towns of Brighton and Lewes in the UK. The group took its cues from bands like The Cure and Depeche Mode fashioning a dark atomospheric and dramatic wall of sound which exhibites a coherency, intensity and emotional depth. The band have just released their debut album ‘Walking to the Edge’ which they self produced. They have had the pleasure to play with The Mission, All About Eve, Skeletal Family, The Damned & Gene Loves Jezebel to name a few Plus DJ Wild Bill Buttock (The Dark Room, Whitby Goth Weekend, Nostalgia) www.rhombus.org.uk www.myspace.com/rhombus Click here to watch them on youtube £5.00 ticket and £7.00 on the door Click here to buy online |

The Worcestershire Literary Festival in association with Apples & Snakes is proud to announce a very special event with Chris Redmond and his band for all regular LEP attendees. More Information About Chris Redmond: Chris Redmond is a poet, musician and educator, raised in a musical family; writing, performing and playing from a young age. He spent his 20’s playing drums in bands, touring the UK and Europe, whilst quietly honing his writing skills, fusing his love of both music and language. From his first open mic, to playing to two thousand people at Shepherds Bush Empire, His poetry has always been about performance. Gigs include Glastonbury Festival, The Big Chill, Latitude, Cargo and The Jazz Café, both solo and with his band – fusing poetry, song and blistering broken jazz. He is the host and promoter of Tongue Fu – a poetry/music improv night in London and at festivals. His poetry has been featured on BBC Radio 1, XFM, Resonance FM and SKY TV. Thesse guys are the same band members from Hells Bells, the AC/DC tribute band who played here earlier on in the month. When I first went to check Hells Bells out they were supporting themselves in the guise of HellRazor playing all the classic rock tracks you would expect and some you wouldn't expect. I was blown away by them and so we decided to put them on as their own gig rather than simply a support band to their alter egos. Come and check them out. £5.00 admission Click here to buy online |
